Samba is a Brazilian dance that is commonly performed in the Carnaval, a festival akin to Mardi Gras. The samba procession, "Deixa falar" and music, "Pelo telefone" are the first two in samba history. Thus began the beginning of samba's growing popularity, eventually becoming part of the most famous Brazilian tradition. There are a diverse types of samba dancers that attend dance schools across the country, primarily starting with children. Children are the essence of Samba. They sometimes create songs, dances, and even their own costumes. Annually, a samba carnival is held Helsinki in June where schools compete to see who has the best Samba dancers. It helps to spread Brazilian culture and tradition.
I feel that the samba is a vibrant, energetic dance filled with life and expression. As they frolic on the field with invigoration, the audience is filled with excitement and cheer. It makes your heart race when you see the ecstatic movements. I think that the samba is very interesting and extravagant part of Brazil's special culture.
The Samba ties into the Brazilian culture, because it ties into the religious calendar. Carnival has a Latin origin that means "farewell to meat", which is part of Lent, a Catholic holiday where meat is forbidden to be consumed every Friday for 40 days. Carnaval is a way of celebration and self-indulgence, a day before a season of sorrow and sacrifice.
